Creating a Residence Layout, Seating plan, Toilet and Utility room plan using AutoCAD.

    Challenge 1-

Aim: Residence Plan: To sketch the layout of a residence as given.

Commands used- Line, Polyline, Offset, Trim, Erase, Circle

    Procedure-

    1. Open a new autocad file and save it as a new file. Take unit as Engineering in feet and set the precision as 0'-0". Set the limits with command "LIMITS" specify the left corner points and right corner points and enter zoom all

    2. Using Line command and keeping ortho on create a rectangle of 25' x 43' 6.5".

    3. Create an offset of 9" towards inside half of all the sides.

    4. As per dimensions, draw the required sides of all rooms as specified.

    5. Then trim the unnecessary lines and erase rest of them.

    6. Drawing staircase:

Give a wall thickness of 9" for the staircase room.

Divide the staircase room by giving offset of 3' from the front wall thickness.

Give an offset of 1.96" to show the handrail (Assume ,5cm is usually given)

Draw offset of 1'(thread) to draw the stairs in plain view.

Draw 9 offsets as there are 9 risers for 8 steps.

Trim of the lines between the handrails and give the other side as dotted lines (it indicates that it is the upward stairs, not visible when viewing ground floor plan)

For that select the lines and change the line type to ISO dash.

    Mark the direction of stairs.

    7. Drawing Doors:

Draw circle of 3', 2'6", 3'3" and copy them outside the plan. Now, Trim all the door openings with their respective width 3’, 2'6", 3'3".

    8. Windows:

For living, take an offset of 1'3”. Using line command draw a line of 6' from the centre of offset line inside the wall thickness. Draw windows wherever necessary: from middle portion of a wall draw a line, from the midpoint of that line give the distance i.e., the width of the window. Trim all the unwanted lines and fillet the corners with fillet radius zero.

    9. Kitchen Slab:

Offset a distance of 2' to make the kitchen slab.

Draw the cupboard by creating a rectangle Command "REC"-specify base point - click on dimension -give dimension as 5' x 2'.

Copy the rectangle to another bedroom also.

    10. Layers:

From layer property- create new layer - create 8 layers each for wall, door, window, stairs, kitchen slab and cupboard.

Name each layer as wall, door, window, stairs, kitchen slab, dimensions, text and cupboard and give different colours, so that it can be identified separately.

Select the objects and place it in respective layers.

    Result:The residencial plan is drawn.

Challenge 2- Outdoor sitting canopy seating plan.

Aim:To draw the seating plan for an outdoor canopy.

Commands used: Circle, Offset, Fillet, Extend, Trim.

    Procedure:

    1. Using Units command taking metric units with insertion scale as millimeters.

    2. Taking circle command, draw a circle of radius 1398mm. Now taking the same centre, draw a circle of radius 452mm.

    3. Draw an offset of 200mm from the inner circle to determine the position of chairs. Draw lines along the diameter of the bigger circle.

    4. Draw lines along the diameter of the bigger circle.

    5. Draw a rectangle with command "REC" giving dimensions as 600 mm and 300 mm.

    6. Draw an arc taking first point, centre point and end point along the rectangle of length 600 mm.

    7. Using array command and selecting the arc and rectangle repeat the figure three times over the diameters of the bigger circle.

    8. Draw a rectangle of 200 x 100 mm on both sides of the rectangle of 600 x 300 mm which represents chair handle.

    9. Draw a line after 50mm from the handle of 100mm on both sides.

    10. Draw an arc along the 100mm line drawn before.

    11. Using array command selecting the whole chair repeat along the diameter three times.

    12. Erase the unnecessary lines and circle

    13. Use explode command to separate all the lines.

    14. Using Fillet command and taking radius of 50mm click and select the two lines. and trim off the unwanted line

    15. Now erase the unnecessary lines again.

Result:The seating plan for an outdoor canopy is sketched.

    Challenge 3-

Aim: To sketch the part plan for the toilers and utilities room.

Commands Used: Offset, Fillet, Extend/Stretch, Trim, Design centre.

    Procedure:

    1. First create a new AutoCAD file.

    2. Using Units command taking metric units with insertion scale as millimeters.

    3. Set the limits with Limit command. Specify the left corner points and right corner points and enter zoom all.

    4. Draw construction lines by command "XL-V" for X-line vertical and "XL-H" for X-line horizontal.

    5. Trim the left side and bottom position of the construction lines.

    6. Drawing utility room:

Draw an offset of 300mm from the left side of vertical construction line and an offset of 150mm from the bottom horizontal construction line.

Draw an offset of 2100 mm upwards and offset of 1900 mm towards the right side and give the wall thickness of 150mm and 300mm respectively.

From utility room, after offset of 100mm, give another offset of 832mm and trim to form the door opening and then draw circle to the midpoint of other side of wall. Trim off the rest of circle to form an arc.

    Drawing DH Toilet:

Draw an offset of 1700 mm upwards and wall thickness of 300 mm as it is the external wall, and a room is formed.

Using trim command Trim the rest of the construction lines.

    Create opening for doors:

From toilet ,after offset of 100mm, give another offset of 832mm and trim to form the door opening and then draw circle to the midpoint of other side of wall. Trim off the rest of circle to form an arc.

Draw window of 728mm in the utility room and a ventilator of 631 mm in toilet room.

Draw the duct shown behind the toilet room by offset at a distance of 201 mm and 150mm wall thick ness upwards.

Extend the wall of toilet towards it and offset 402 mm, offset wall thickness as 150mm.

    Drawing of utility symbols:

Go to insert tab and select design centre, then select the sanitary symbols by draging them into AutoCAD screen and place it anywhere then as per requirement place the blocks in their actual place.

Result:The plan for the toilers and utilities room is achieved by following the above methods.
