SECTION MODULAS CALCULATION
OBJECTIVE:
SECTION MODULAS:
The section modulus of the cross-sectional shape is of significant importance in designing beams.
It is a direct measure of the strength of the beam.
A beam that has a larger section modulus than another will be stronger and capable of supporting greater loads.
So greater the section modulas more will be the resistance to bending of the component.
HOOD DESIGN SECTON MODULAS:
From the above analysis the minimum moment of inertia is obtained here,
Imin=315200mm4
Y=440mm
Smin=Imin/Y
Smin=315200/440
Smin=716.36mm3
SECTION MODULAS OF OPTIMIZED DESIGN.
As we know the section modulas is proportional to sectional area of the body , it can also be increased by reducing the depth of the embosses by offseting the outer panel by 5mm.
This increases the value of section modulas.
now,
Imin=376400mm4
Y=440mm
Smin=Imin/y
Smin=376400/440
Smin=855.4545mm3
PERCENTAGE INCREASE IN THE SECTION MODULAS= {[Smin(optimised)-Smin(old)]/Smin(old)}x100
={(855.4545-716.36)/716.36}
=19.41%
